Beyond the Horizon

Life can really be mundane when we let ourselves by consumed with the present, our circumstances, and the things that irritate and agitate us.  We get so consumed with these things that we can’t even see what God has on our horizon.

Jesus spoke to this in the book of John.  I love the way The Message paraphrases his words in John 8:23.  “You’re tied down to the mundane; I’m in touch with what is beyond your horizons.  You live in terms of what you see and touch.  I’m living on other terms.”  Wow, Jesus sees way beyond what we can see!  Image

When we are tied down to the mundane, we tend to stop reaching for those passions that God has planted in our heart and put on our horizon.  We get frustrated and start feeling like God has forgotten us in the midst of those circumstances.  The truth is that the Lord has so much more for us; He has so much packed into our lives; things we can do, who we can become, and things way beyond our imagination.  When we’re stuck in the mundane, we stifle His best for us.

Personally, this speaks to me because I can become tied down to the mundane things in life and forget that God has greatness planned for me.  I get tied down to those mundane things and forget that Jesus is in touch with what is beyond my horizons.  I have to cut myself loose from the mundane and stretch myself to see what is beyond the horizons of my view but within the horizons of God’s view for me.

We can all get tied down to the mundane.  It’s an easy place to get to.  The key is to focus on Jesus’ plans for us, stay in the Word daily and ask God to speak to us and guide us.  If we keep His Word fresh in our hearts, we can keep our eyes focused on what God has on our horizon and we will be blown away at the greatness He has in store for us.
